To gracefully enter the new year, the French fragrance house Diptyque requested strong visuals that portray their signature scents in a festive way. Their request was met in an elegant CGI animation, sprouted from meticulous illustrations and translated through candle wax, the texture they know best.

          Défilé Non-Autorisé

          2024
          400 pages
          240 mm x 320 mm (closed)

After researching the fleeting phenomenon of fashion show invites, I put my findings to the test by sneaking into a number of Fashion Week events. This publication is an invitation on its own, as it serves a front row seat to the Parisian runway. The content includes every type of record of my trip: analog photography, iphone snapshots, fragments of my diary and folders with news articles.

“This invitation is strictly personal and non-transferable” or is it?

Intrigued by both the graphic gems and the exclusivity that characterize the fashion scene, I spent a year researching invitations to fashion shows. What followed is a project that acts as a plea for inclusive conservation of couture beyond the garment. ‘Défilé Privé’ is a extensive disquisition of the past, present and future of invitations, whereas ‘Défilé Archivé’ features a display of the broad collection of Veerle Windels - Flanders finest fashion journalist. The book ends in a deep dive on recurring graphic elements. The use of dot-matrix paper is a nod to their non-existent registration.

            PARDON MY FRENCH

            2023
            108 pages / 216 pages
            150 mm x 200 mm (closed)

A project inspired by my love for Grace Jones and disgust at the hostile way she often gets approached. This interactive book contains a selection of interview snippets that made me vicariously uncomfortable. Through a tear strip the reader is invited to open up a page when they are intrigued, shocked or entertained by a certain dialogue, thereby uncovering the subjects and their facial expressions. By primarily hiding her appearance,
I aim to give an unbiased perspective on the vulgar questions she gets asked.

The cover is inspired by Richard Bernstein's artwork on her ‘Portfolio’ album cover. The body text is set in my custom font ‘Grace Mono’, a monospaced transcript typeface with a touch of disco.

            About Publications

            2023
            15 editions
            230 mm x 295 mm (closed)
            box: 240 mm x 310 mm x 3 mm

To avoid the wheel from getting re-invented, the assignment for this project was to take inspiration from another publication to shape up a number of essays and interviews of famous (graphic) designers. I chose to morphe each text into an existing booklet from a box, chosen for its connection to the context or the writer. In order to form seemingly exact replicas I had to get surprisingly creative. By following a rigid rulebook of fonts and sizes, the diversion lies in content gathering and optical illusions.

The box includes 15 booklets, a timeline and a bunch of stickers by which the owners can customize their copy.

The job of the artist is always to deepen the mystery.
                - Francis Bacon

This sweater provides a literal interpretation of Bacon’s quote. It’s a collection of clippings taken from visuals of famous unsolved mysteries. Without any provided context this calls for your imagination to bear even more riddles.

The assignment was restricted to only black and white colors.

            FOUR TO THE FLOOR

            2022
            196 pages
            210 mm x 240 mm

Four to the Floor is a book about all facets of clubbing. Each chapter is based on a musical genre and ranked by its corresponding BPM. This publication contains historical information, interviews and hit singles, thereby giving a thorough perspective on music [venues]. The main body is paired with a plantopedia excerpt filled with botanicals that regulate heart rhythm. Like so, each genre can be paired with a plant.
